Finally I join the papertoy world again and enter a contest….

(popsetpaper.com, Happy Colours’ Attack)

But for I can’t finish the papertoy in time (my live is changed a lot!)
(participate)

Damn I just couldn’t get more time in the design/build… I wanted to compete but there are more important things to do…

I could be sad, but I’m not, so instead of winning a contest
Ishare the end result with you (this is my blog so why not):

I introduce to you:

Squeezzrr

a C-Myk papertoy
(and my first Shin Tanaka custom)

Squeezzrr front-shot

Squeezzrr side-shot

My creation is based upon the fact that Shin got inspired by a drop of water. The (head-) shape he created made me think of an orange squeezer and I decided to make a character based upon that.
Some minor changes to the original design: shortened the ‘head’ and removed/replaced the arms with my own design. And of course an orange!

Hope you like it.

Update #1: I have added Squeezzrr also to the gallery of Pop’set. It will be visible in 48 hours . To bad that there is no like button anymore

Update #2: I was missing the possibility to “like” this! So now you can do that here: like me on facebook. So like me alot

Update #3: Yes!! added to the Pop’set Colours’ attack contest – gallery: http://www.popsetpaper.com/layers-node/519 to bad no “like” so I have created my own like!

Shin Tanaka – Onitsuka Tiger (Mexico 66) / Nike Air Force 1 / Nike AF-1 / read more on this blog

PHIL – AIR CUBE FORCE 1 / AIR YEEZY TRIBUTE

DMC – Vans Era

David Brownings – Nike / Nike

And I don’t want to do something that someone else already did before me. So no urban paper sneaker for me…. Till my girl bought a pair of PUMA sneakers: they are awesome!

So I just googled a little bit about for limited edition PUMA sneaker and it convinced me to do a papertoy PUMA sneaker.

My urban paper PUMA sneaker is loosely based upon PUMA First Round model (check the online shoe customizer: PUMA MONGOLIAN SHOE BBQ)

The blank template:

My own design:

I don’t have the templates ready for publising, so you have to wait for that a little bit.
(or ask leave a comment so I can send what I have now)

Perhaps in the future I will make the model more detailed!

I don’t have to mention that the PUMA logo is not mine, right?

When I started to write about this Griant Robot there was not a site for it; now there is: Gaint Robot Shin.
This website is for a contest: “Customize the template with your own designs”.
But before you start designing: you need to read the rules (.pdf)…. But to make a long story short: basically you need to live in the USA, which I don’t do)

But the best stuff is yet to come: the template that are in the magazine can be downloaded form there:
part 1, part 2, part 3 and the blank template.

Read more about this contest at NPT

I’ve been asked to talk about this subject…… yeah this title is ohhh soooo original.

I though about it for a while (do I really want to make free advertising for a car company or a magazine?), but I couldn’t resist: Shin Tanaka is involved.
And that dude is cool!!

Shin is featured in an Asian/Amercan popculture magazine Giant Robot with a 3 piece robot: this image is the second one that can be found in Issue 57 of Giant Robot magazine.

Buy magazine 56, 57, 58 and you will have this:

How cool is that!

I’ve been looking around in the stores in Amsterdam, but I haven’t found this magazine (yet). So I can’t build it and those who can’t build, write about it….

The same thing about Scion, this brand isn’t sold in the Netherlands (perhaps it is, but I don’t know about it, and I have never seen one).

But if Scion is happy with this post, and want to reward me, just give me a xB (no, really!!)

I’m one step closer filling the 6 slots for Pusher Series 1 (Designers on Drukks).

Scott Schaller is filling the 5th slot with his Dr. Bear

An awesome design. And I love the extras Scott designed for Dr. Bear, especial the brain case.. Always wanted a evil Doctor in my papertoys collection.

Of course is Scott and Nice paper toys member, you almost have to be …

Some other nice-to—know information: Scott is a Graphic Design Teacher, which isn’t that special: a lot of papertoy designers have a creative job or education. No, besides teaching Graphic Design, Scott is also in charge of an after school program: F studio.

As a design teacher, I often throw in a lot of hand skills oriented components to the projects I assign. The computer plays a big part in all of our projects, but the finishing of a project, whether it is binding a box or constructing a packaging comp, is the part that makes the project complete. Paper toy crafting just seems to be a natural next step, combining design and illustration, hand skills, and toy making.
….
we are making our own vinyl toys, including the design, sculpting, and casting of resign models

How cool it that!!! I’m trying to figure this stuff out in my spare time and here is a teacher who can teach you everything you ever wanted to know. Man I’m jealous.
Visit Cabrillo Design Lab for more info.

Check this out: Custom self portraits by students of Scott (and himself) based upon boxy from Shin Tanaka.

Scott himself

And way down here on the end of the post… Scott told me that one of his students is working on a Drukk and she wants to have the last slot in series 1. Please do, you can have the last slot. And when you have filled that last spot I will start on the Selfish Series 2.

Update #1: I’m sorry: it seems that the deluxe series is no longer available.

Ric pointed out to me that there is an update on the SPIKY BABY DELUXE SERIES from Shin Tanaka:

This is a special one, you don’t want to mis this series: the master himself is giving some new models away in this download.
Of course the SPIKY BABY are designed by some very talented designers, and you should check them out (see the links below), but I’m a fan, and the models Shin makes are really cool.

So lets take a look at this SPIKE BABY custom:

Don’t know how they are called but the link is called “SMN” and the image “SNKR” (sneaker?)

Link and image is called “TTB”

As other SPIKY BABY series you can download all models at random, but I don’t have the patience to download them all that way.
So I hacked it a little and give you all the links at once:

Update #2: I removed the links, they don’t work: you are too late for the download

Update #1: I have written a post about Jerom

I have written about the paperToys book from Matt Hawkins before: it’s a book about the most talented paperToy designers in the world!

Because the list is so impressive I should write about these people…..
And I already did that: a lot of these paperToy designers are part of my Urban papercraft series

But there are some where I will not write about: not because they are not talented, but they don’t meet the requirements for my definition of Urban Papercraft.

At the beginning of this year Shin Tanaka came with a secret project: the SPIKY BABY Deluxe series. This project had two tags “Real Arts for Everyone” and “Change the Game”….
So this project must be something

Today SPIKY BABY DELUXE SERIES is revealed:

As other SPIKY BABY series you can download all models at random, but I don’t have the patience to download them all that way.
So I hacked it a little and give you all the links at once:

Update #1: all these downloads are limited time only :: that time has passed… the links don’t work anymore….
