This year I was invited by Nick Knite to design papertoys robots for PAPER ROBOTS published by h.f.ullmann.

Here are my robots (sorry for the poor images, couldn’t find a decent shot of them): BurddBott and Walkrr TXR

Paper Robot

I’m one of the 15 papertoy artists from all around the world and we produced 25 robots!
The book is ready and its awesome!
It will be in four languages (English, German, French and Spanish) and is already available on amazon for pre-ordering.

Some of the artist in the book also wrote about it:
Sal Azad
Tougui
Marko Zuback
3eyedbear
Nick Knite
but the rest of the artist are too awesome not to mention:
Matt Hawkins, Marshall Alexander, Abz, Shin Tanaka, Castleforte, Dolly Oblong, Jonny Chiba, Scott Schallar and Vinsart.

If you want to see more, here is a link to the product-page on ullmann-publishings website with more details and previews.

Eventually there will be microsite on the Ullmann-website, where you can download free robots, some of them brand new and never released before!!
update
The microsite on the Ullman-website is live! Get your free robots over there!!!

Check more photos here, on HAKUSAI PROJECTS coverage of #up13 where we officially introduced the book to the public.

Introduction of Squeezzrr a C-Myk papertoy

Finally I join the papertoy world again and enter a contest….

Pop'Set Colours attack logo
(popsetpaper.com, Happy Colours’ Attack)

But for I can’t finish the papertoy in time 🙠(my live is changed a lot!)
(participate)

Damn I just couldn’t get more time in the design/build… I wanted to compete but there are more important things to do…

I could be sad, but I’m not, so instead of winning a contest
Ishare the end result with you (this is my blog so why not):

I introduce to you:

Squeezzrr

a C-Myk papertoy
(and my first Shin Tanaka custom)

Squeezzrr front-shot

Squeezzrr front

Squeezzrr side-shot

Squeezzrr side

My creation is based upon the fact that Shin got inspired by a drop of water. The (head-) shape he created made me think of an orange squeezer and I decided to make a character based upon that.
Some minor changes to the original design: shortened the ‘head’ and removed/replaced the arms with my own design. And of course an orange!

Hope you like it.

Update #1: I have added Squeezzrr also to the gallery of Pop’set. It will be visible in 48 hours :D. To bad that there is no like button anymore ðŸ™
Update #2: I was missing the possibility to “like” this! So now you can do that here: like me on facebook. So like me alot 😀
Update #3: Yes!! added to the Pop’set Colours’ attack contest – gallery: http://www.popsetpaper.com/layers-node/519 to bad no “like” so I have created my own like!

NOISSGrunny a MechaBunny custom

A while back Nick Knite asked me to create a custom for his MechaBunny.

I’ve created NOISSGrunny:
NOISSGrunny

But the Mecha6 are made by a all-star papertoy team: Scott Schaller, Shin Tanaka, Tougui, Castleforte, Marshall Alexander and ME.
The Mecha6 have arrived!!

Here the Nick Knite – MechaBunny slideshow on Flickr (including my custom):

Shin Tanaka x Giant Robot x Scion

When I started to write about this Griant Robot there was not a site for it; now there is: Gaint Robot Shin.
This website is for a contest: “Customize the template with your own designs”.
But before you start designing: you need to read the rules (.pdf)…. But to make a long story short: basically you need to live in the USA, which I don’t do)

But the best stuff is yet to come: the template that are in the magazine can be downloaded form there:
part 1, part 2, part 3 and the blank template.

Read more about this contest at NPT

I’ve been asked to talk about this subject…… yeah this title is ohhh soooo original.

I though about it for a while (do I really want to make free advertising for a car company or a magazine?), but I couldn’t resist: Shin Tanaka is involved.
And that dude is cool!!

Shin is featured in an Asian/Amercan popculture magazine Giant Robot with a 3 piece robot: this image is the second one that can be found in Issue 57 of Giant Robot magazine.
Second robot by Shin Tanaka

Buy magazine 56, 57, 58 and you will have this:
Three robots combined by Shin Tanaka
How cool is that!

I’ve been looking around in the stores in Amsterdam, but I haven’t found this magazine (yet). So I can’t build it 🙠and those who can’t build, write about it…. 😀

The same thing about Scion, this brand isn’t sold in the Netherlands (perhaps it is, but I don’t know about it, and I have never seen one).

But if Scion is happy with this post, and want to reward me, just give me a xB (no, really!!)

Urban papercraft: Spiky Baby Deluxe series – part 2

Update #1: I’m sorry: it seems that the deluxe series is no longer available.

Ric pointed out to me that there is an update on the SPIKY BABY DELUXE SERIES from Shin Tanaka:
SPIKY BABY DELUXE SERIES

This is a special one, you don’t want to mis this series: the master himself is giving some new models away in this download.
Of course the SPIKY BABY are designed by some very talented designers, and you should check them out (see the links below), but I’m a fan, and the models Shin makes are really cool.

So lets take a look at this SPIKE BABY custom:

Don’t know how they are called but the link is called “SMN” and the image “SNKR” (sneaker?)
???

Link and image is called “TTB”
???

As other SPIKY BABY series you can download all models at random, but I don’t have the patience to download them all that way.
So I hacked it a little and give you all the links at once:

Update #2: I removed the links, they don’t work: you are too late for the download

Update #2: Read about Macula

I have written about the paperToys book from Matt Hawkins before: it’s a book about the most talented paperToy designers in the world!

(and I’m part of that group 😉 )

Because the list is so impressive I should write about these people…..
And I already did that: a lot of these paperToy designers are part of my Urban papercraft series

But there are some where I will not write about: not because they are not talented, but they don’t meet the requirements for my definition of Urban Papercraft. So I hope I don’t offend someone, but this group of designers will be striked out (like this)

Paper Toy Book preview

Update #1: I got the complete list of paper toy designers from Matt Hawkins

Paper Toy Book preview, originally uploaded by Custom Paper Toys.

Last year I was invited to joint a group of 24 of the most talented paper toy designers in the world. Matt Hawkins (you know him from his site Custom Paper Toys or his contributions to Paperforest) started a book which will be publish early 2009.

On the image you see the first half of the papertoys:

Just visit flickr and see the notes on the picture, so you see who made what….

My toy is the one with the gun: I call it Son of a Grumm.
When I have my own pictures of it, I will post it here

Urban papercraft: Shin Tanaka (part 4) – Sneakers

I read in an article about Shin Tanaka that he started creating paper models and templates for all his favorite sneakers he couldn’t afford when he was a student…
We seem to like the same sneakers!

Nike

One of my favorite Nike is create in paper by Shin: the Nike Air Force 1 is created by Shin in paper and can be found on the internet:
NIKE AIR FORCE 1 paper model and LMAC BABESTAS
NIKE AIR FORCE 1 paper model and LMAC BABESTAS
download the Nike Air Force One (.PDF) here.

Update #1: The internet is always changing, so some links are no longer available. I found the template somewhere else: http://www.instructables.com/file/FUURPWYFM2KBS4W/

And the Nike AF-1 can be found here:
Nike AF-1
http://www.govacant.com/shin.html
(or download the Nike AF-1 here (.PDF))

Shin has even had an exhibition with these sneakers:
Shin exhibition

Onitsuka Tiger

Shin also worked together with Onitsuka Tiger and created a template for
Onitsuka Tiger – Mexico66.
Onitsuka Tiger - Mexico66
You can create your own Mexico66: just download the blank version here: Onitsuka Tiger – Mexico66 (.PDF).

This project has it’s own Flash site: http://shin.onitsukatiger.co.uk/.
And you can send in your customs on the same site.

If you want to know more about Shin, just read the interview with he did with PingMag: read the interview.
